The Universe is a vast expanse of space, which contains all of the matter and energy in existence. Astronomical and geological evidences indicate that the universe is approximately 13.75 billion years old. It is believed to have come into existence in a massive explosion called the big bang. It is very large and possibly infinite in volume, the observable matter is spread over a space at least 93 billion light years across. Since the plank Era, the universe has been expanding, with all the galaxies rushing away from each other. Astronomers do not know if this will go on forever. If it stops and the universe starts to contract, the galaxies would rush towards each other. Then the universe might end in a big CRUNCH, the opposite of the big bang. This might set off another big bang and a brand new universe.
